Circular hike to Torre del Time

Once you have completed the somewhat steeper climb through the pine forest and vineyards, the trail becomes relatively flat and pleasant all the way to the Torre del Time. There is now also another viewpoint along the route, offering an additional place to stop and enjoy the scenery.
Overall, this is a very manageable hike. One of the highlights is the wide panoramic view from the viewpoint near the Torre del Time.
If you prefer a much shorter version, you can drive up to the forest road at the coordinates 28.704308, -17.924961. From there, the walk to the Torre del Time is almost completely flat. You can then simply return along the same route.
This shorter version takes around 1.5 hours and involves hardly any elevation gain, making it a great option if you mainly want to enjoy the views without doing a longer or more demanding hike.
An insight into the hike:
This quiet circular walk starts in the high-lying settlement of El Pinar near Cruz del Llano. Following the old traverse known as La Traviesa, it first passes cultivated land, stone walls and Canary pines. Forest paths alternate with peaceful tracks as the route gradually climbs towards the western rim above Barranco de las Angustias.
Torre del Time is a fire lookout standing above the immense ravine. The tower itself is fenced and cannot be entered, but the platform below already provides a superb panorama: Barranco de las Angustias lies far beneath, Pico Bejenado rises opposite, and beyond it appear the peaks of the Caldera, Cumbre Nueva and Cumbre Vieja. The return passes vineyards and scattered houses on the way back to El Pinar.
At 6.9 kilometres with 344 metres of ascent and descent, the circuit works well as a half-day hike. Trails are generally well marked, although stony sections still require sure-footedness. There are no places to eat or buy drinks along the route, so carry water and a snack as well as sturdy footwear and protection against sun, wind and changing weather.
Torre del Time should not be confused with Mirador del Time, which lies much lower beside the LP-1. This hike begins at the parking area near El Pinar and Cruz del Llano. The exact route, full tour description, current advice, elevation profile and GPS data are available from our partner Sunhikes.
