Cruz del Llano: Grand circuit around Barranco de Jieque

An insight into the hike:

Cruz del Llano is the starting point for a major circuit through Tijarafe's deeply carved hinterland. The PR LP 10 first leads between vineyards and Canary pines towards the Trajocade and Jieque ravines. With every metre gained, the west-coast panorama widens while the deep barrancos reveal constantly changing angles.

The route reaches Pista Torre del Time via Lomo del Pino, then climbs hard again on PR LP 12. The return uses local paths SL LP 70 and SL LP 71, combining steep, partly protected passages with forest tracks and a quieter finish through the vineyards near El Jesús.

The figures are unambiguous: 14.5 kilometres and 1,375 metres both up and down make this a hard day hike. Long climbs, steep descents, irregular ground and possible heat require excellent fitness, secure footing and generous time margins.

This circuit suits experienced visitors seeking a sporting alternative to the better-known viewpoints. Steep sections may be delicate after rain, while sunny days demand plenty of water. Sunhikes maps the complete route and every change between the four marked trails.
