An insight into the hike:
From Mirador del Barranco del Jurado the view plunges into an immense ravine whose scale becomes fully apparent only during the descent. PR LP 12.2 twists down a narrow, steep path to the coast. Bare rock walls, Atlantic views and remnants of an old material cableway give this short outing a distinctly untamed character.
At the bottom lies tiny Playa del Jurado, a dark-pebble cove with a handful of weekend houses. It feels remote and quiet, yet any swell demonstrates how exposed this coastline remains. The return retraces the same line and turns the compact descent into a concentrated climb.
Only 2.3 kilometres may sound easy, but 266 metres of ascent and descent on steep, partly exposed terrain justify the moderate grade. Sure footing, sturdy footwear and a head for heights matter more than stamina. Wet ground, strong wind or extreme heat call for extra caution.
The walk works best as a compact landscape experience with time reserved for the viewpoint. Swimming is never guaranteed and depends entirely on sea conditions. Sunhikes explains the descent, the sensitive passages and the turning point at Playa del Jurado.
