Events in La Palma in September 2026 – festivals, concerts and cultural highlights

September 2026 in La Palma brings together some of the island's most impressive traditions with major concerts, film, percussion, theatre and literature.

The most extraordinary experience is the Danza del Diablo in Tijarafe on the night of 7 to 8 September. On the evening of the 8th, the solemn procession in honour of the Virgen de Candelaria and a large fireworks display follow.

One of the month's biggest musical highlights is the Isla Bonita Love Festival in Puerto de Tazacorte: Isabel Pantoja performs on 12 September, followed by Laura Pausini and Nathy Peluso on the 19th. Towards the end of the month, Elvis Crespo, the Caballos Fufos and the feast of San Miguel Arcángel add further highlights in Tazacorte.

Official programme for the Danza del Diablo and Virgen de Candelaria celebrations in Tijarafe 2026

7/8 September: Danza del Diablo in Tijarafe

Night of 7/8 SeptemberVerbena from 22:00PyrotechnicsTijarafe
The Danza del Diablo is the month's defining traditional highlight and an essential part of the cultural identity of Tijarafe. The tradition is protected as intangible cultural heritage and recognised as a Fiesta de Interés Turístico de Canarias.

On Monday, 7 September, musicians from the 101 Brass Band parade through El Pueblo from 13:00. The rosary begins at 17:00, mass at 17:30 and a major Canarian wrestling bout at 19:00 in the Terrero Laureano Castro.

At 22:00, the Gran Verbena begins in Plaza de Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. Gigantes y Cabezudos appear during the night, followed eventually by the Diablo. Its exact appearance time is deliberately not announced. The climax traditionally comes during the early hours of Tuesday, 8 September.

A dancer carries the large pyrotechnic figure through the crowd. Sparks, smoke, music and the Diablo's movements merge into a spectacle lasting around twenty minutes, ending with a powerful final detonation.
Safety and arrival: the square becomes extremely crowded. Arrive several hours early, expect road closures and follow the emergency services' instructions. The immediate central area is unsuitable for small children; hearing protection and a generous distance are advisable.

8 September: Virgen de Candelaria, procession and fireworks

8 September 2026from 20:00ProcessionFireworks
After the wild night of the Diablo, Tijarafe reveals its solemn side on Tuesday evening. The rosary begins at 20:00, followed at 20:30 by the solemn Eucharist in honour of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria.

The statue of the Virgin then moves through the town, accompanied by the Banda Municipal de Tijarafe. The programme includes a Cuadro plástico and the sung Loa a la Virgen. A fireworks display closes the celebration.
A good alternative: visitors who prefer to avoid the dense crowd and close-range pyrotechnics of the Diablo can enjoy a calmer evening of tradition, music and fireworks on 8 September.

11–19 September: 21st Festivalito La Palma in El Paso

11–19 September 202621st editionFilm & musicEl Paso
The Festivalito – Festival de las Estrellas de La Palma is no ordinary film festival. At its heart is La Palma Rueda: teams receive a secret theme and produce a short film on the island in just a few days. Screenings, talks, workshops, industry meetings and Festivalito LAB activities complete the programme.

In 2026, the 21st edition focuses on films made in and about the Canary Islands. The main venue is El Paso. Festivalito Sonorama evenings combine film with indie, rock, reggae, soul, funk and electronic music; Sonorama is advertised as free to attend.

Selected dates:
  • 11 September: opening, film and live music in El Paso.
  • 12–14 September: Festivalito LAB with workshops, discussions and pitching.
  • 19 September, 21:30: musical finale with Arístides Moreno and Ant Cosmos in Plaza Francisca de Gazmira.
For holidaymakers: public screenings, talks and concerts are easy to include in an evening in El Paso. Some professional sessions may require registration.
Official programme for Isabel Pantoja's concert at the Isla Bonita Love Festival 2026

12 September: Isabel Pantoja at the Isla Bonita Love Festival

12 September 202620:30Ticketed eventPuerto de Tazacorte
To mark its tenth anniversary, the Isla Bonita Love Festival is spreading its headline concerts over two Saturdays for the first time. Isabel Pantoja opens the series on 12 September at the Muelle Deportivo in Puerto de Tazacorte. The organiser describes this as her only Spanish concert as part of the celebration of her 50 years on stage.

The Love Festival combines music with a social agenda promoting diversity, equality, inclusion and freedom. The official programme gives a start time of 20:30; tickets are required.

Playa de Tazacorte is a good place to spend some time before the concert.
Getting there: allow extra time, do not rely on finding a last-minute parking space beside the harbour and arrange your return journey in advance.

12 September: Novéntate Festival in Los Llanos

12 September 202616:00–23:59Ticketed eventLos Llanos
The pop culture of the 1990s comes back to life for an afternoon and evening in Parque Antonio Gómez Felipe in Los Llanos de Aridane. Novéntate combines concerts with retro games, a period-style video shop, vehicles and technology from the decade.

The 2026 line-up features Ann Lee, Zapato Veloz, Arístides Moreno, Grupo La Línea, RatPack and José AM.
Choosing between events on 12 September: Novéntate begins at 16:00, while the Love Festival is a major evening concert in Tazacorte. Travel time, admission and parking make a complete visit to both events unrealistic.

17–19 September: 10th Batucada Fest La Palma

17–19 September 202610th editionPercussionLos Llanos
Batucada Fest celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2026 and expands to three days for the first time. The main meeting point is Plaza Juan Pablo II; a street parade runs from Calle Díaz Pimienta to the event area.

Workshops, the street parade, percussion and stage performances make the festival enjoyable even for visitors who can attend only part of the weekend.
Right in the heart of town: the festival combines well with a restaurant visit or a stroll through Los Llanos. Expect diversions and higher noise levels around the central squares.
Official programme for Laura Pausini and Nathy Peluso at the Isla Bonita Love Festival 2026

19 September: Laura Pausini and Nathy Peluso at the Love Festival

19 September 202620:30Ticketed eventPuerto de Tazacorte
One week after Isabel Pantoja comes the second headline concert night. Nathy Peluso opens with her Club GRASA DJ Set, followed by Laura Pausini as the anniversary evening's main artist. The organisers announce a concert of around two hours by Pausini as part of her new world tour.

Urban and electronic club sounds meet the great Italian-Spanish pop ballads of a singer who has enjoyed international success for decades.
Planning: secure tickets in your preferred category early. Set off in good time, check for special transport and do not wait until the concert ends to organise the journey back.

23–27 September: Festival de la Palabra in Garafía

23–27 September 2026LiteratureFree admissionSanto Domingo de Garafía
During Festival de la Palabra, the centre of Santo Domingo becomes a meeting place for writers, storytellers, poets, researchers and audiences. Readings, talks, workshops, round-table discussions and family activities are planned.

Its special appeal lies in the small rural setting. A visit can be combined with a day trip to the north, although the winding roads mean that the evening journey back should be planned realistically.
Before setting off: the cultural calendar confirms the date range, but not yet every individual time. Check the daily programme and exact venue immediately before your visit.
Official programme for Elvis Crespo's concert in Tazacorte on 26 September 2026

26 September: Elvis Crespo at TLP Music

28 September: Caballos Fufos, decorated floats and Verbena

28 September 2026from 20:00TraditionTazacorte
The Caballos Fufos are one of Tazacorte's most distinctive traditions. Dancers wear colourful paper horses around their bodies and parade through the town to the song Vuela, vuela palomita – a lively experience that families also enjoy.

Timetable:
  • 20:00: parade of elaborately decorated floats from the Town Hall to Avenida de la Constitución.
  • 21:30: Caballos Fufos parade along the same route, accompanied by the Banda Municipal.

28 September–3 October: Festival Hispanoamericano de Literatura

28 September–3 October 20268th editionLiteratureLos Llanos
September ends on an international note in Los Llanos. The 8th Festival Hispanoamericano de Literatura brings together authors from Spain and Latin America. In 2026, Peru is the guest country; more than twenty Peruvian writers and further guests from Spain and across Spanish-speaking America are announced.

The format includes conferences, debates, round-table discussions, meetings between authors and readers and book signings. The festival runs until 3 October, making it equally relevant to visitors arriving at the very end of the month.
Programme note: the detailed daily schedule is being released in stages. Before visiting, check which sessions are free to attend and whether individual rooms require registration.

29 September: San Miguel Arcángel and fireworks

29 September 2026Main feast dayProcessionFireworks
San Miguel Arcángel is the patron saint of Tazacorte and the island of La Palma. His feast day begins at 06:30 with the traditional Diana: Gigantes y Cabezudos and the Banda Municipal parade through the streets, followed by hot chocolate at the Town Hall.

The solemn Eucharist is celebrated at 12:00. A further mass at 19:30 is followed by the procession of the saint's statue. On its return to the church, the hymn in honour of San Miguel is performed, and fireworks bring the programme to a close.
Traffic: parts of the town centre will be temporarily closed in the evening. Reach Tazacorte early and park outside the immediate procession route.

Practical tips for events in La Palma

Arrive early: access roads and parking are under considerable pressure for the Diablo, Love Festival, Caballos Fufos and San Miguel.

Plan your journey back in advance: taxis and regular bus services are limited at night. Special buses or shuttles are sometimes announced only shortly before an event.

Buy tickets only through official websites: categories, advance-sale phases and admission rules may vary for the Love Festival, Novéntate and TLP Music.

Dress for the conditions: take water, sun protection and comfortable shoes during the day. A light jacket is useful in higher areas and late in the evening.

Respect pyrotechnic safety: observe barriers during the Diablo and fireworks. Anyone sensitive to noise, smoke or sparks should keep their distance.

Check the day's programme: councils may change times, venues and traffic arrangements at short notice for safety or weather reasons.
