Mirador del Acantilado del Time – spectacular viewpoint above Tazacorte and the west coast of La Palma
Are you planning your holiday on La Palma and looking for a viewpoint that is not directly located on the road but still offers a breathtaking panorama? Then the Mirador del Acantilado del Time is well worth a visit. The viewpoint sits on the steep cliffs of the Time above Tazacorte and offers an exceptionally wide panorama over the west side of the island – from the Atlantic Ocean and banana plantations to the lava fields created by the 2021 volcanic eruption.
Location and access: The Mirador del Acantilado del Time is located below the well-known Mirador El Time and lies directly on the historic Camino del Time, an old footpath that leads from the Valle de Aridane down to Tazacorte. Above the viewpoint there is a small parking possibility. From there the mirador can be reached within a few minutes on foot via a beautiful old paved stone path.
Historic hiking trail to Tazacorte: From the viewpoint the Camino del Time continues steeply downhill towards the coast. The path runs largely directly through the rock along the steep cliffs of the Acantilado del Time. Over time the trail has been secured in several places as occasional rockfall can occur here. The historic route winds down in numerous switchbacks and eventually ends directly at the beach of Tazacorte.
Panoramic view over the west side of La Palma: The view from the Mirador del Acantilado del Time is one of the most impressive perspectives on the island’s west coast. From here you can see the beach of Tazacorte, the harbour of Puerto de Tazacorte and the extensive banana plantations surrounding the coastal plain. Behind them lies the town of Tazacorte as well as Los Llanos de Aridane, the economic centre of the Valle de Aridane.
Views of volcanic landscape and the Atlantic: Particularly impressive is the view of the island’s geological evolution. The new lava fields created during the 2021 volcanic eruption can clearly be seen stretching across the valley towards the sea. The contrast between black lava, green plantations and the deep blue Atlantic makes this viewpoint especially spectacular. Along the coastline the view extends as far as the lighthouse of La Bombilla, while the volcanic ridge of the Cumbre Vieja rises in the background.
A mix of nature, volcanic landscape and ocean: Hardly any viewpoint shows the diversity of La Palma’s landscape as impressively as this one. From here you can see green banana plantations, fresh lava flows, the steep cliffs of the Time, the Atlantic Ocean and the dark beach of Tazacorte all at once. This combination of green vegetation, black volcanic terrain and blue ocean makes the mirador a particularly photogenic place.
Perfect starting point for a small hike: The viewpoint is ideal as a starting point for a short hike down to Tazacorte. Many visitors park above the mirador, walk down the historic path with light luggage to the beach, take a swim in the Atlantic and then enjoy something to eat or drink in the restaurants and bars at the harbour. Afterwards the same path leads back up to the viewpoint.
Conclusion: The Mirador del Acantilado del Time is an impressive viewpoint above Tazacorte that combines panorama, history and nature. Anyone who wants to explore La Palma actively will find here a spectacular view over the island’s west coast and at the same time one of the most beautiful historic hiking routes down to the Atlantic.
