Mirador del Acantilado del Time – spectacular viewpoint above Tazacorte on La Palma
The Mirador del Acantilado del Time is one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the west side of La Palma. From the steep cliff above Tazacorte, a spectacular view opens up over the Valle de Aridane, the green banana plantations, the Atlantic Ocean, and the dark lava fields of the Tajogaite volcano. The viewpoint is located along the historic Camino del Time and is an ideal starting point for a hike down to the beach of Tazacorte.
Mirador del Acantilado del Time – spectacular viewpoint above Tazacorte and the west coast of La Palma
The Mirador del Acantilado del Time is one of the most impressive viewpoints on the west side of La Palma. Many visitors know the well-known Mirador El Time between Los Llanos de Aridane and Tijarafe, but just a few minutes below there is a viewpoint that is still unknown even to many visitors to the island. From the steep cliff edge of the Acantilado del Time, a spectacular view opens up over the entire Valle de Aridane, the coastline around Tazacorte and the Atlantic Ocean. Particularly impressive is the view of the extensive banana plantations stretching all the way down to the sea, as well as the dark lava fields of the 2021 volcanic eruption, which run clearly through the valley. Precisely because this viewpoint is not located directly on the main road, the atmosphere usually remains quiet. Anyone who takes the short walk down will experience one of the most beautiful panoramic views over the west coast of La Palma.
Viewpoint along the historic Camino del Time
The Mirador del Acantilado del Time is located directly along the historic Camino del Time, an old route connecting the Valle de Aridane with the coast of Tazacorte.
In the past, farmers, traders and fishermen used this path to transport goods between the fertile valley and the port of Tazacorte. Parts of the trail are still preserved today and run along the steep cliff on old Canarian stone paving.
The path winds its way down to the coast in numerous bends and repeatedly offers impressive views over the valley and the Atlantic.
Today, this historic path is a popular hiking route on La Palma. Even the famous Transvulcania marathon follows parts of this historic trail down towards the coast.
Panoramic view over Tazacorte and the Valle de Aridane
From the viewpoint, you look directly down onto the beach of Tazacorte, one of the most popular beaches on the island. Next to it, you can spot the small harbour of Puerto de Tazacorte, known for its restaurants and relaxed atmosphere.
The entire valley below is shaped by the characteristic banana plantations, stretching in long rows all the way to the coast.
Behind them lie the towns of
Tazacorte
and
Los Llanos de Aridane,
the economic centre of the Valle de Aridane.
Thanks to the elevated position, the landscape appears like a huge panoramic map stretching from the Atlantic to the mountains in the interior of the island.
View of lava fields and volcanic landscape
A particularly fascinating part of the view is the perspective over the most recent volcanic landscape of La Palma.
The black lava fields of the Tajogaite volcano, which emerged in 2021, can clearly be seen stretching through the valley all the way to the coast south of Tazacorte.
The contrast between the dark volcanic landscape, the green banana plantations and the deep blue Atlantic makes this viewpoint especially spectacular.
On clear days, the view extends along the coast as far as the area of La Bombilla, while in the background the volcanic ridge of the Cumbre Vieja can be seen.
Hike down to the beach of Tazacorte
Many visitors combine the viewpoint with a short hike along the Camino del Time down to the beach.
The historic path descends in numerous bends along the steep cliff all the way to Tazacorte.
Once at the bottom, it is well worth taking a break by the sea. A particularly popular place is the restaurant
Playa Mont,
known for its fresh fish and friendly service.
Directly on the beach you will also find
Bodeguita del Italiano,
an Italian restaurant that has been a popular address for many years for pizza, pasta, salads and a glass of wine with views of the Atlantic.
The return route then follows the same historic path back up to the viewpoint.
Holiday homes and accommodation nearby
The area around La Punta in
Tijarafe
is one of the most beautiful residential areas in the west of La Palma.
Several special holiday homes are located very close to the viewpoint.
The modern luxury villa
Villa Laina
offers spectacular architecture with sweeping views over the Atlantic.
Set among the banana plantations is
Casa Micaela,
a popular holiday home in a peaceful location.
The property
Villa Pilar
consists of two houses and is especially well suited for couples or small groups.
Another architectural highlight of the region is the modern
Villa Espejo,
whose large glass surfaces offer spectacular views over the west coast.
