On 12 December, Santiago Auserón (also known as Juan Perro) returns to La Palma with his band. His programme blends rock, jazz, son and literary influences, offering a varied evening for music lovers.

In early December, the Christmas lights are switched on across La Palma. In Santa Cruz de La Palma, the lighting ceremony includes concerts and family activities. In Los Llanos, the lights and nativity scene at the Casa de la Cultura are inaugurated. There is music and events for all ages.
Tazacorte and El Paso also offer atmospheric lighting and street performances. Evenings are perfect for a walk through the town centres.

Nativity scenes are an essential part of the Christmas season. Particularly impressive is the nativity scene of the CajaCanarias Foundation in its cultural centre in Santa Cruz. Municipal nativity scenes can also be found in Los Llanos, Tazacorte, El Paso and Puntagorda, often featuring creative elements for children.
On 22 December the famous Spanish Christmas Lottery takes place. Days before, queues form outside bars, kiosks and ticket sellers. The draw is broadcast live on TV and many bars show it in the morning.

San Silvestre in Los Llanos – a sporty end to the year

The San Silvestre race runs in several laps through the centre of Los Llanos. The atmosphere is cheerful and lively. There are children’s races and a main route for adults. Registration is available online or on site if spaces remain.

Christmas markets & local activities
Several municipalities host small Christmas markets and activities. Larger programmes take place in Santa Cruz, Los Llanos, El Paso, Tazacorte and Barlovento. They offer local products, pastries, music, wine and handmade gifts. The markets usually take place on selected days and have a warm family atmosphere.
Weather, sea & hiking in December
Winter on La Palma begins milder than in central Europe. Daytime highs on the coast reach 19 to 21 degrees, while nights drop to 14 to 17 degrees. In mid altitude areas it is slightly cooler. On the Roque de los Muchachos, temperatures can be very low and there may even be some snow.
The sea remains pleasant at around 21 degrees. There are more rainy days, but also many sunny intervals. December is ideal for hiking: the Cubo de la Galga, Los Tilos, the Volcano Route and trails in Puntagorda and Garafía are highly recommended. Layered clothing is advised.
