When the almond trees begin to bloom in Puntagorda, the north-west of La Palma is transformed into a sea of white and pink blossoms. The Fiesta del Almendro en Flor symbolises the transition from winter to spring and is one of the island’s most traditional festivals.

Over several days, nature, hiking, wine culture, music, poetry and Canarian traditions come together. For many visitors, this festival is one of the most authentic ways to experience La Palma.

Friday, 23 January – Opening & Wine Culture

8:00 pm Casa de la Cultura Puntagorda

The official opening of the festival takes place with the “Juego de Vinos”, an entertaining team competition centred around wines from the Canary Islands. Knowledge, social interaction and local products take centre stage.

An ideal and relaxed way to begin the Fiesta del Almendro and connect with local residents.

Saturday, 24 January – Sport, Vinathlon & Festive Atmosphere

All day Puntagorda Active & Social

Saturday is one of the most lively and popular days of the Fiesta del Almendro en Flor. Sporting competitions, the famous Vinathlon, live music and prize ceremonies fill Puntagorda with festive spirit.

11:00 am – III Softball Tournament Fiesta del Almendro
Venue: Campo de Fútbol El Fayal
The traditional softball tournament opens the sporting programme with local teams and plenty of spectators.

11:00 am – V Vinathlon “Vino a Jarro Race”
Start: Los Pasitos
Themed race “Wine among Blooming Almond Trees” through the almond orchards of Puntagorda.

Checkpoints with wine and tapas tastings at the following wineries:

Sunday, 25 January – Families & Tradition

Morning & afternoon Puntagorda

Sunday is dedicated to families and creativity. Sporting activities continue in the morning, while the afternoon programme is especially designed for families with children.

“El Almendro de los Deseos” invites children and adults to enjoy stories, legends and creative activities centred around the almond tree.

Monday, 26 January – Hiking among Almond Trees

4:00 pm Meeting point: Town Hall

Guided hike through the almond orchards of Puntagorda, accompanied by explanations about the history and traditional cultivation of almond trees. A perfect opportunity to experience the blossom season up close.

Thursday & Friday – Poetry, Music & Modern Sounds

30 January Casa de la Cultura

The International Festival of Versadores “Almendro en Flor” brings together poets and musicians from different regions. Improvised verses, oral tradition and music define this cultural evening.

Afterwards, “Almendro en Rock” offers a modern contrast with open-air rock music in Calle Cuatro Caminos.

Saturday, 31 January – Día del Turista in Puntagorda

All day Puntagorda Family-friendly

Día del Turista is the central day of the Fiesta del Almendro en Flor. Hiking, music, handicrafts, children’s activities, gastronomy and major evening events make this day the highlight of the almond blossom festival.

Interpretative walk through the almond landscape with Manuel Pérez Rocha.

The Charanga de El Rascao accompanies visitors with live music around the festival grounds.

Traditional almond-related customs presented by the Asociación Cultural Cuerpo de Baile Gorgojitos.

2:00 pm – Live music
Performance by Ilusión Gomera.

3:00 pm – Non-alcoholic cocktail workshop
“Create your own cocktail”, suitable for all ages.

4:00 pm – “Joyas del Almendro” (Jewellery workshop)
Upper area of the Casa de la Cultura.

Performance by the Agrupación Folclórica Tajadre.

Preparation and tasting of almond sweets by the Asociación de Mayores de San Mauro Abad, followed by dancing with Parranda Los Derepente.

8:00 pm – Prize ceremony
XV Concurso de Vinos Almendro en Flor.

10:00 pm – Grand Open-Air Dance
Venue: Calle Cuatro Caminos
With the orchestras El Combo Dominicano, Tropicana’s, Naty Caru and Leonardo Lires.

Sunday, 1 February – Traditional Closing Day

Morning Puntagorda Traditional

Sunday marks the traditional closing of the Fiesta del Almendro en Flor with music, dance, handicrafts and local traditions.

12:00 pm – Handicraft exhibition
Venue: Carpa Casa de la Cultura
Presented by the guest municipality Santa Cruz de La Palma.

12:00 pm – Children’s entertainment
Area next to the Albergue Puntagorda.
Games, inflatables and face painting by Animación y Espectáculos Tabayzú.

12:00 pm – Open-air dance
Venue: Calle Cuatro Caminos
Music with El Combo Dominicano, Tropicana’s, Leonardo Lires and Naty Caru.

12:00 pm – Popular dance
Venue: Comunidad Cuatro Caminos
With Walter and Dúo Palma.

12:30 pm – Traditional festival
Venue: Polideportivo El Pinar
Performance by Domingo Rodríguez “El Colorao” with the show “A Tierra”.

Throughout the morning, salted almonds and local wine are distributed.

Each edition of the Fiesta del Almendro is dedicated to a municipality on La Palma. In this 49th edition, the guest municipality is Santa Cruz de La Palma, represented by its City Council.
