Traveling to La Palma by ferry – a relaxed & reliable arrival via Tenerife
The ferry connection between Tenerife and La Palma is one of the most scenic and reliable ways to reach the Isla Bonita. Modern catamarans, smooth procedures and flexible check-in options ensure a comfortable and stress-free start to your holiday.
Traveling to La Palma by Ferry – a relaxed arrival via Tenerife (22.11.2025)
Many travellers combine their Canary Islands holiday with a stopover in Tenerife before continuing their journey by ferry to La Palma. The connection between Los Cristianos and Santa Cruz de La Palma not only offers a pleasant travel experience but also proves to be especially reliable when flights are disrupted due to weather conditions. While fog or calima can temporarily affect air traffic, the high-speed ferries usually continue operating – a clear advantage for a stress-free and secure arrival.A holiday feeling from the very first step on board
For many guests, the ferry crossing already feels like the real beginning of their holiday. Boarding is straightforward, with no additional security checks, and passengers can move freely on board, relax or enjoy the views. Travellers with bulky or heavy luggage particularly appreciate the stress-free handling. The approximately two-and-a-half-hour journey passes pleasantly, accompanied by the sound of the Atlantic and wide views of the neighbouring islands.
Modern catamarans and reliable connections
The route between Los Cristianos and La Palma is operated by two ferry companies:
Fred. Olsen Express and
Naviera Armas.
Both use modern high-speed catamarans that complete the crossing in around 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Fred Olsen typically offers a morning departure at 08:30 and another in the evening. Naviera Armas mainly operates the late connection – ideal for travellers arriving later in Tenerife.
Boarding & luggage – simple, fast and well organised
Boarding is very straightforward. Arriving 30–45 minutes before departure is perfectly sufficient.
Particularly convenient is the luggage handling: trolleys are available at the harbour where suitcases can be safely placed.
This allows passengers to board easily without carrying heavy bags, and luggage is later collected comfortably at the port of La Palma.
Car rental – best collected directly on La Palma
Although taking a car onto the ferry is possible, in most cases it is advisable to collect the vehicle directly on La Palma.
Many rental companies do not allow island-to-island transfers or only permit them with written authorisation. In addition, vehicle tickets significantly increase travel costs.
Since several rental providers are located at the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma, collection is straightforward and flexible.
Late arrival? Holiday homes with flexible check-in
Travellers arriving on the evening ferry do not need to worry about their arrival time.
Most holiday homes on La Palma offer a flexible check-in, as the key is either placed in a key safe or left at a pre-arranged location.
Clariso is happy to take care of the complete organisation so your holiday can begin without stress.
