But once again, the ocean proved that it cannot be controlled. A strong storm with heavy swell partially damaged the beach in a short time. The added sand and recently renewed sections were washed back into the sea with full force. A vivid reminder of how nature takes back what it wants – and how quickly human work and investments can reach their limits by the ocean. Along the promenade of Tazacorte, near the old harbour directly by the beach, the force of the sea was also clearly felt. At popular restaurants such as Taberna del Puerto or Bodeguita del Italiano, waves splashed over the wall. Debate about a protective breakwater

For the municipality of Tazacorte, this is a severe setback. Mayor David Ruiz spoke of the urgent need for a maritime breakwater that could secure the playa in the long term. Without such protection, the scenario will repeat itself every year: high costs for improvements that the sea can undo within hours.

For holidaymakers, this means that even in the summer months, including August with its many hours of sunshine, Playa de Tazacorte may not always be suitable for swimming. Instead, it sometimes becomes a spectacular stage of natural forces, where the energy of the Atlantic can be experienced up close. Despite the current damage, Playa de Tazacorte remains one of the best beaches for swimming and relaxing on La Palma, especially popular with families and sun lovers. Together with Playa de Puerto Naos, it is one of the island’s most important bathing spots and attracts visitors from all over the world every year.
